Lucknow: World Pharmacists Day will be observed globally on September 25, highlighting the important role pharmacists play in strengthening healthcare systems and improving patient well-being.
This year’s theme, “Empowering pharmacists to strengthen health systems,” focuses on recognising and expanding the contribution of pharmacists to accessible, safe and effective healthcare.
Sudhanshu Mishra, Awadh Zone in-charge of the Allopathic Pharmacists Association, said the occasion provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of pharmacists to public health and healthcare delivery. He said pharmacists are not merely medicine providers but an important part of the healthcare system, helping patients understand the correct use of medicines, offering safety-related guidance and spreading awareness about disease prevention.
Their role became particularly visible during the COVID-19 pandemic, when pharmacists continued supporting communities while maintaining essential access to medicines and basic healthcare guidance.
Health organisations, educational institutions and pharmacist associations are marking the occasion through awareness drives, health check-up camps, seminars and felicitation programmes. These initiatives are aimed at increasing public awareness about the professional role, rights, workplace safety and skills of pharmacists.
World Pharmacists Day is observed every year to recognise pharmacists’ contribution to healthcare and encourage greater awareness of their role in building stronger and more responsive health systems.
